GEOFF McCLURE

Take it as redUNLESS something goes horribly wrong we can all expect to see Tiger Woods strolling up to the 18th hole, if not in the lead, then somewhere near it, in the Australian Masters at Melbourne's Kingston Heath on Sunday, November 15. Here's another tip €” he will be wearing red. And here's the reason why, all thanks to a very inquisitive 11-year-old fan of Tiger's who wrote to him on his website, asking the champ why it was he always wore that colour on the final day of a tournament. "I wear red on Sundays because my mum thinks that that's my power colour, and you know you should always listen to your mum," Woods told "Luke" of Dublin. And on the subject of aiming to be a star when you are Luke's age, he added: "Don't worry about your handicap right now €” just try to improve. When you hit balls, be sure to practise with a purpose. Work on the shots that are giving you trouble. And most of all, remember to have fun. It's great to be 11 years old."Still a single guyIS THIS world sport's longest engagement? Well, it seems like it is, with the clock ticking past 18 months since Test cricketer Michael Clarke announced his engagement to model Lara Bingle. And not only has the wedding yet to happen but Clarke revealed this week they are still yet to set a date, one of the reasons being they're just too busy. "We are enjoying being engaged and have no plans to get married at this stage," he said. One theory doing the rounds is that their engagement is a carefully engineered marketing stunt. Bit of a harsh call, don't you think?Cricket an in, out gameTHE "real" game of cricket and the one played indoors may seem worlds apart but you would not have thought so going on the make-up of the Australian women's team at the 2009 indoor cricket world cup in Brisbane. One of the players, Olivia Magno, is a former Test player while skipper Jude Coleman, Neisha Iles, Cindy Kross, Wendy Kemp, Rikki-Lee Rimmington (pictured in action at the titles) and Melissa Mayers have all represented their state in the real version. And while doubters suggest the indoor game impacts negatively due to the different set of skills required, Coleman believes the two forms can not only work in harmony, but actively benefit each other. "The batting is a little different, technically not necessarily, just more to do with where you hit the ball," Coleman said. "But the fielding and bowling are very similar."Pass!AND we liked this line from American television late-show host Jimmy Fallon, on President Barack Obama inviting House members over to play some White House basketball: €˜€˜He didn€™t even want to play,€™€™ said Fallon. €˜€˜He just wanted to see Congress pass something.€™€™Who said that? "For me, a big achievement was just actually getting out on a cricket field."ANDREW FLINTOFF, revealing the injuries that hastened his retirement were so painful, he often needed his wife to put on his socks and shoes for him.
